About the film
In large military exercises, a group of paratroopers under Lieutenant Tarasov is dropped behind the lines with almost nothing and told to locate the 'enemy' headquarters. Their rival, the tough officer Volentir, is hunting them.
With no supplies and little time, the paratroopers improvise: they borrow, bluff and trick their way through the countryside. The film mixes action, humour and army life.
It was a huge hit and a favourite of Soviet teenagers and soldiers; it still has tens of millions of views online.
