About the film
Nikolai Pasechnik is the best high-rise fitter in the brigade and also its biggest troublemaker. He climbs without a safety belt, argues with his bosses and charms everyone except Katya, a sharp young fitter who refuses to be impressed.
The brigade is trying a new, faster method of assembling a blast furnace while managers worry about paperwork and risk. The work scenes, shot high above the ground, are real and impressive even today.
Height is a warm 1950s film about work, pride and love, and it gave the country one of its favourite songs, the 'March of the Steeplejacks'.
